Project title: Developing Knowledge and Improving Skills in Molecular Biology for Medical Science (DKISMS)

Specific Objectives:

- Designing updated special courses for the beneficiaries.

- Organizing laboratory- based workshops.

- Developing skills in computational molecular biology.

Outcomes:

1. Build a strong basis for postgraduates in molecular biology.

2. Provide challenge for postgraduates to carry out their research and design their own laboratories.

3. Attain the international standards in the taught courses.

Summary:

Our project highlights the importance of molecular biology as a modern science in the medical field for both the university staff members and postgraduates. It is obvious that this field did not receive too much attention by many investigators, may be due to lack of knowledge and skills and/ or lack of funding resources. On such basis, the scope for professional development of the university staff members and postgraduates could be achieved via their involvement in an actively investigating lectures, workshops and seminars as well as introducing the beneficiaries into scientific literatures, media and technological aspects that should expand their knowledge and skills.

Apart from that, the interested participants should learn a fair background in the field of bioinformatics, computational biology and biological statistics in order to be able to conceive, conduct and interpret an independent original and creative research in molecular biology.

To achieve the planned goals of our project strategy, we are enthusiastic and willing to carry out the following approach:

A) - Enrolment of postgraduate students (Diploma, MSc .and Ph.D.)  In an intensive, special and updated courses and seminars according to their academic ranks.

b) - Organizing laboratory- based- workshops in molecular techniques to motivate their laboratory experience and credentials. Practicing of some techniques by hand will be done whenever possible.  C) - Better understanding of computational biology via setting up related courses and solving some research problems.

We do believe that fulfilling our goals will impact, create and maintain an active communication line between the junior scientists and the molecular biology unit of the university to achieve scientific excellence in research and education. In turn, we will have a strong positive impact on the general policy and strategy of developing education adopted by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education.
